Starkville, MS – Starkville High School Class of 2025 Celebrates Significant Achievements

The Starkville High School Class of 2025 comprises 320 graduating students, many of whom are set to continue their education at various community colleges, four-year universities, and military branches. Some graduates are already equipped with certifications and skills that will enable them to enter the workforce immediately.

A total of four graduates earned dual diplomas from Starkville High School and East Mississippi Community College, showcasing a commitment to academic excellence. In addition, more than 34% of the Class of 2025 were members of esteemed national academic honors organizations, including the National Honor Society, National Technical Honor Society, and the National Beta Club. This recognition highlights the students’ dedication to their studies and leadership roles within their school community.

Academically, the class boasts impressive results in standardized testing. Twenty-three students were acknowledged as part of the Advanced Placement (AP) program for their national exam scores, while 43 students scored 25 or higher on the ACT college entrance exam. Six graduates have been awarded the prestigious Seal of Biliteracy for their proficiency in two or more languages, further demonstrating the diverse talents of the student body.

Among the notable accomplishments, one graduate achieved the status of National Merit Finalist, an honor awarded to only 15,000 students nationwide each year. This distinction underscores the exceptional capabilities of Starkville High School students.

In addition to academic accolades, more than 45% of graduates received special diploma endorsements that go beyond Mississippi’s standard diploma requirements. This includes 37 students earning an Academic Endorsement, 50 students a Distinguished Academic Endorsement, and 58 students securing a Career and Technical Endorsement. Furthermore, 32 graduates earned the Mississippi Tech Master Scholar designation recognizing their performance in technical and vocational studies with an emphasis on STEM education.

A significant portion of the Class of 2025, over 34%, are identified as Career and Technical Education (CTE) completers, showcasing a strong commitment to practical skill development. Additionally, more than 29% of graduates achieved Silver, Gold, or Platinum certifications on ACT WorkKeys, a workplace readiness assessment designed to gauge essential skills.

Sports also play a vital role in the achievements of this class, with 22 student-athletes signing to play at various collegiate athletic programs. Their commitment to athletics complements their academic performance and exemplifies a well-rounded approach to education.

Emma Claire Spradling emerged as the class Valedictorian and a National Merit Finalist, earning a $2,500 scholarship for her achievements. Scoring in the top 1% on the PSAT in Mississippi helped her qualify for the National Merit program. Emma Claire plans to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to pursue a degree in Data Science. She attributes her success to her participation in AP and advanced classes that fostered her interest in the field.

Emma Claire also recognized Jason Scott as her chosen STAR Teacher, highlighting the significant impact he has had on her academic journey. Her high school experience was enriched not just by academic pursuits but also by her involvement in varsity athletics and various community service projects.

The graduation ceremony for the Starkville High School Class of 2025 is scheduled for May 23 at 6:00 PM, to be held at the Humphrey Coliseum. This event will mark a significant milestone in the lives of these graduates as they transition to the next chapter of their educational and professional journeys.
