Born on January 1, 1943, in Smyrna, Georgia, to John and Mary Bennett, Jane dedicated her life to her family, hobbies, and community engagements. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. Her welcoming home was a sanctuary for family and friends alike, where she shared her passion for baking, sewing, gardening, and traveling with her beloved husband, Dr. Robert W. Keirs, who served as a professor of poultry science at Mississippi State University.

Jane had a prolific career as a paralegal, serving in the field for over thirty years. During this time, she formed a significant professional and personal bond with Jacob Pongetti, her colleague, who became a lifelong friend. Her capacity for friendship extended beyond work, cultivating close ties with several families in the community, including Joseph and Kai Andol, as well as David and Debbie Burkes.

Family and Legacy

Jane was preceded in death by several loved ones, including her parents, her son Jay Smith, her husband Robert, her brother David Bennett, and her sister Judy Troncolli. She is survived by her brother, Ronnie Bennett, her daughter Kim Heath, her son Dan Smith, and her daughter-in-law Christa Smith. She took immense pride in her family, which includes four grandchildren: Halee Frink and her husband Caleb, Hilary James and her husband Zack, Alec Smith, and McKenna Smith. Additionally, Jane is survived by two great-grandchildren, Parker Jane Frink and Margot Christa James, as well as numerous stepchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will remember her fondly.

Final Arrangements

The family plans to hold a private celebration of Jane’s life while they navigate this difficult time. Jane will be interred alongside her husband at Memorial Garden Park in Starkville, a decision that reflects their lifelong partnership and love. The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Oktibbeha County Humane Society, honoring Jane’s compassionate spirit.
