Mississippi State women’s basketball coach Sam Purcell announced the signing of Nigerian forward Favour Nwaedozi, a talented player who stands 6 feet 3 inches tall. Nwaedozi, who previously played at Mukogawa Women’s University in Japan, showcased her skills by averaging 26 points and 17 rebounds during the Kansai Women’s Spring Basketball Championship. Her versatility and charm are expected to enhance the Bulldogs’ roster, which is undergoing significant changes following the loss of key players. Nwaedozi joins a group of new transfers and recruits aimed at revitalizing the team for the upcoming season.

Starkville, Mississippi – Mississippi State women’s basketball coach Sam Purcell announced the addition of Nigerian forward Favour Nwaedozi to the roster on June 30. Standing at 6 feet 3 inches tall, Nwaedozi brings significant talent and a dynamic playing style to the Bulldogs as they prepare for the upcoming season.

Nwaedozi’s basketball career began at Mukogawa Women’s University in Japan, where she made a notable impact. This past spring, she participated in the Kansai Women’s Spring Basketball Championship, averaging an impressive 26 points and 17 rebounds per game. Her performance showcased her ability to dominate on the court with both scoring and rebounding prowess.

Purcell highlighted Nwaedozi’s versatility as a post player, noting her capability to score effectively both inside the paint and from long range. In addition to her offensive skills, she possesses strong defensive abilities, allowing her to guard opponents across the full length of the court. Observers anticipate that her contributions will not only enhance the team’s gameplay but also provide an engaging presence off the court, as her personality has been described as having a “million-dollar” charm.

Nwaedozi’s arrival coincides with a significant transformation of the Mississippi State roster for the upcoming season. Last year, the Bulldogs advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament but lost their top four scorers. To address this challenge, the team has brought in several new faces, including four transfers: guards Trayanna Crisp and Saniyah King, forward Kharyssa Richardson, and center Faith Wylder. Additionally, Awa Fane joined the team from Panola College, further deepening the roster.

The Bulldogs also welcomed a strong recruiting class, ranked No. 11 by ESPN. This class includes guard Jaylah Lampley and forwards Madison Francis and Nataliyah Gray, all of whom are expected to contribute to the team’s success moving forward.

Last season, the Bulldogs benefited from the performance of international player Madina Okot, who had a remarkable season, averaging 11.3 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks per game. However, following the season, Okot transferred to South Carolina, prompting Mississippi State to adapt and restructure their lineup for the new season.

As the Bulldogs prepare for the season, there is a renewed sense of optimism surrounding the team. The combination of Nwaedozi’s unique skill set, along with the infusion of talent from transfers and recruits, positions Mississippi State to make a strong push in the upcoming games. The coaching staff and fans alike are eager to see how this revamped roster will perform and what impact Nwaedozi will have on the team’s overall success.
