Born on November 27, 1947, in Macon, Mississippi, Bill was the son of Pete and Carolyn Bennett Reeves. He grew up in a nurturing environment that cultivated his adventurous spirit, love for learning, and dedication to service. Bill graduated from Noxubee County High School in 1965, where he was highly regarded as the president of the student council and was awarded the title of Mr. Noxubee County High School.
Following high school, Bill received a bachelor’s degree in finance from Mississippi State University and became a member of the Kappa Alpha fraternity. After completing his studies, he briefly worked for Shell Oil in Atlanta before marrying his wife, Blue, in 1974. The couple returned to Mississippi, where Bill attended Ole Miss Law School while Blue taught in Water Valley.
Bill launched his legal career at the Hinds County District Attorney’s Office, later spending 45 years in private practice with various law firms. He built a reputation as an effective litigator and trusted counselor, known for his collegiality among peers. Bill’s dedication to the legal profession led him to serve on the Mississippi Bar’s Bench & Bar Committee, where he worked towards fostering congeniality among attorneys.
Throughout his life, Bill was also a devoted family man. He and Blue raised their sons, Brad and Blake, in Jackson while actively participating in Christ United Methodist Church. Bill contributed significantly to various organizations, serving as chair of the Mississippi Commission on Continuing Legal Education and as president of both the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and the Jackson Touchdown Club.
Travel was a significant passion for Bill, who emphasized its educational benefits. He ensured that his sons explored all 50 U.S. states before they graduated high school. Bill also organized annual bus trips to Mississippi State University football games, creating a fan group known as the “Bus Dwellers,” which quickly became popular and had a waiting list for participants.
In 2019, Bill and Blue relocated to Starkville, where they were warmly welcomed by the community. Although health issues prompted his early retirement, Bill remained active and engaged, organizing trips and hosting a Monday night Book Club with friends. His sense of adventure culminated in a cross-country train trip with his sons in late July 2025, fulfilling a lifelong dream before his passing.
Bill Reeves is survived by his sons, Brad (Mandy) and Blake; two grandchildren, Caroline and Mason; his brother, Larry Reeves (Lucy); and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Blue, and his parents.
