Eupora, Mississippi – Anthony Scott Hughes, Jr., a 36-year-old resident of Eupora, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2025, at Baptist Memorial Hospital Golden Triangle in Columbus, Mississippi. He is survived by numerous family members and friends who mourn his loss.

Hughes was born on June 9, 1989, in Starkville, Mississippi, to parents Tunya Jones and Anthony Scott Hughes, Sr. He graduated from Eupora High School and worked as a dietary worker at Mississippi University for Women in Columbus. He was a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, affirming his involvement in his local community.

Among those left to cherish his memory is Shakeda Neal, his devoted companion, alongside her family from Columbus. Hughes is also survived by his father, Anthony Scott Hughes, Sr., residing in Atlanta, Georgia; a sister, Lenora Hughes; and a brother, Lionel Jones, both of Eupora. Additionally, his maternal grandparents Mary Shaw and James Shaw, Jr. are from Eupora, as well as Jonathan Shaw, his uncle, who he considered like a brother.

Hughes had several significant relationships that extended throughout his family. He is also survived by two god brothers, Chad Ballard and King Freeman. He was preceded in death by his mother, Tunya Jones, and several relatives, including Aunt Martha Miller, Uncle Hilliard Anderson, Jr., maternal grandfather Jimmy A. Jones, paternal grandparents Leroy Hughes and Pauline Hughes, and maternal great grandparents Hilliard Anderson and Vennia Anderson.

Homegoing Celebration Services for Anthony were held on August 2, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Oliver Funeral Home Chapel in Eupora. Family and friends gathered for visitation at Oliver Funeral Home on August 1, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM. The services were officiated by Apostle Burkey Thompson III, Bishop Michael Mann, Minister Vickie Brantley, and Evangelist Laura Marshall.

The pallbearers for the ceremony included Chad Ballard, Abraham Carr, Justin Hughes, Jarvis Marshall, Tae Neal, and Richard Sayles. Honorary pallbearers were Mike Anderson, Patrick Anderson, Raymon Anderson, Jaquan Butts, Terry Hughes, Reggis Robinson, Shaun Sayles, and Derrick White.

Oliver Funeral Home in Eupora facilitated all arrangements for the Hughes family, showing their support during this time of grief. Anthony Scott Hughes, Jr. will be remembered fondly by his community, family, and friends, whose lives he touched during his time on Earth.
