Supporting Early Learning in Starkville
Speaking of exciting news, did you know that the Starkville Oktibbeha Early Learning Collaborative (SOELC) is expanding rapidly? Currently based out of the Starkville Oktibbeha Consolidated School District’s Discovery Center, this collaborative now supports fifteen PreK classrooms across four locations: Sudduth Elementary, West Elementary, Emerson Family School, and the ICS Head Start – Oktibbeha County. How great is that?
Big Support for Early Learners
In a heartwarming act of generosity, The First Bank has donated a whopping $75,000 to the SOELC! This generous donation will go a long way in supporting pre-kindergarten education throughout Oktibbeha County. Parents can take advantage of this support since the contribution also qualifies for Mississippi’s one-to-one state tax credit program, which is aimed at expanding early learning opportunities in our community.
Recent data shows that enrollment in the SOELC has jumped from 196 to nearly 300 children for the upcoming 2024-2025 school year. Thanks to community partnerships like the one with The First Bank, SOELC has managed to increase the number of PreK classrooms from seven to fifteen in just three years. It’s a testament to how much our community values early education!
Benefits for Families and Children
Beyond just classroom support, the SOELC provides an array of programs designed to benefit families, such as financial literacy programs and parental engagement activities. These initiatives are essential for ensuring that our little ones are well-prepared not just for school, but also for life!
It’s well-documented that high-quality early childhood education can have a significant impact on children’s success as they progress through their educational journey. Research indicates that getting a solid start in early education dramatically improves school readiness, reading proficiency, and even graduation rates!
