STARKVILLE, Miss. — Mississippi State does not yet know whether it will have quarterback Kamario Taylor when the Bulldogs travel to Texas on Saturday, Oct. 31, after he was hurt again in a home loss to Oklahoma in Starkville.

Oklahoma won 23-15 on Oct. 24 at Davis Wade Stadium, leaning on its defense to pick up its fourth victory of the season. Taylor lasted only one quarter. The three drives he led produced two punts and a failed fourth down before he left with a flare-up of the injury that had sidelined him for the previous week’s game at LSU.

John Mateer threw touchdown passes of 36 yards to Isaiah Sategna III and 32 yards to Rocky Beers for the Sooners, and Tate Sandell kicked field goals of 42, 30 and 38 yards in the first-ever meeting between the programs. Mississippi State scored on an 18-yard pass to Camden Capehart and a 42-yard strike to Sanfrisco Magee, who also caught the two-point try.

Coach Jeff Lebby did not say after the game whether Taylor would be ready for the trip to Austin, where kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m.

The Bulldogs have badly missed him. Mississippi State has been on the field for eight of its last nine quarters without Taylor, and the offense has scored just 15 points across the last eight. The backup quarterback has had trouble moving the ball, and the team has been outscored 110-38 during a three-game losing streak.

That slide has dropped Mississippi State to 4-3 overall and 2-3 in the SEC after a 4-0 start, which put Taylor in early talk as one of the better quarterbacks in the league. Oklahoma left Starkville at 4-3 and 2-2 in conference play.

Lebby told his players the focus this week is on how they respond and on getting better before they go on the road.
